This web site has a search engine with a recommended list of childrens preschool books. These books are based on book type and story elements. Click on a theme and then click the submit button to see how it works.
Search (click on a book type or a story element and then click on the submit button)
Book Type Story Elements
What you will get is a pop-up window with a list of Rhonda's recommended books that feature the book type or the story element that you chose. Then you can click on an individual title and get a quick description of what the book is about. If you want more information or reviews then you can click onward. For example: if you chose "animals" from the story element list you would get as one of the choices the following description (in larger print size!)
Max's Dragon Shirt by Rosemary Wells
Max's blue overalls are disgusting! He and his older sister go shopping, but what Max really wants is a dragon shirt, but they don't have enough money left if they buy that. What follows is a hilarious romp through a department store as Max gets separated from his sister and runs around looking for her.
siblings, animals
Advanced Search (search on book types and story elements at the same time)
You can use the same two menus to do an advanced search. Just ignore the word "OR". You can select both a book type and a story element, then submit both at once. The recommended book list that pops up will satisfy both criteria! Even more: you can hold down the "Ctrl" key as you select and that way you can choose two or more items from either menu. A word of caution: there might not be any books that satisfy both or all of your criteria and you will then get an empty list in the pop-up box.
